This book is a laugh a minute rollercoaster it had me in stitches from the first to the last page. Side splittingly funny the word genius for me gets thrown around willy nilly, but it wouldn't be wasted on this guy he's a legend in the making.
Greatly anticipated; ultimately disappointing. ![]()
If you don't find Frankie Boyle funny on "Mock The Week" I can only assume that you've had your sense of humour removed because his wit is just SO sharp. Even better is the dvd of his U.K. tour where only the gluttons for punishment sit in the front row.
With that in mind, and being from his neck of the woods, I was really looking forward to this book. Yes, there are a fair number of humorous one-liners, but they're outnumbered by tales of knocking back lots of alcohol and other drugs to get through life. I found myself tearing through the start of the book because I was enjoying it so much but, by the time I was getting near the end, the whole story was getting a bit depressing. I actually got the feeling that the publisher felt much the same, because it had obviously not been proofread, with a few glaring spelling and grammar mistakes that really shouldn't have slipped through.
I suppose that, if I'd wanted to be amused, I should have waited for tickets for his next tour; no-one ever guaranteed that an autobiography - even of a comedian - was going to be funny. I now wished I'd used the cover price for something else. I'm not going to recommend it. If you want to enjoy Frankie, go and see him on stage (or buy the dvd). At least the title is honest.
Getting a bit predictible ![]()
Okay, Frankie, you are very funny, and very crude, and very irreverent. So I give you 5 stars for making me laugh out loud many times.
Just a word of warning, call it a slight dampener on the ecstatic reviews of some of the other contributors. Whisper it ...but... Too much Frankie gets to be a bit predictable and, well, a bit boring. By the end of this book, I was losing interest. You could almost write the next line before Frankie did.
Read in small doses and it will keep its freshness. Dont do what I did and read it in a couple of sittings.
Very Very funny ![]()
This is a great book, I randomly read a few pages in a bookshop and bought it immediately. There are so many funny stories.
