good text, detailed background to the law in this area
this is the older edition, but its ok. So longlong as you dont go looking for lisbon in it!
Worst Textbook Ever! 
I'm currently studying the GDL and trying my best to tackle the subject of EU law. This textbook is apparently the reputed Bible of EU law, but I've found it to be no help whatsoever. Whenever I try to read it I end up more confused than when I began, and I have a number of problems with it:
- It's far too dense and confusing
- Nearly everything is unclear and highly convuluted
- The layout is terrible (not student friendly in the slightest)
- You really have to work hard to extract the relevant information you need (the most important points are hidden away in a mountain of tiny text)
- There's simply no logical order to the topics covered
I've ended up having to turn to a revision guide to teach myself even the most basic of EU law principles because this textbook is just so ridiculous. If you ever had a chronic fear of small, unbroken/unparagraphed text, don't touch this monster with a barge pole. And even if you don't want to scream at the sight of the most unfriendly layout you've ever seen, I strongly recommend that you look elsewhere. This book won't be doing you any favours at all.

A complete waste of money.
- Language used is needlessly complex
- Does not explain even basic principles well
- Follows a completely illogical format
I highly recommend Foster on EU Law, it's very well written and is genuinely interesting to read.
Especially helpful if you're an undergraduate law student. Foster on EU Law
Extremly comprehensive although very chunky
Okay so it's very chunky, but it has absolutly everything. It is easy to understand but due to its sheer volume you really have got spend some time reading it. I only used this book and Understanding European Union Law by Karen Davis(which is a fantastic book)to get a 2:1 for the exam. If I would have read the 'EU Law' In greater depth I know I would have got a first.
This truly is the encylopedia of EU law.

excellent , extremely detailed and lovely book. wicked for exams and succinct explainations.
Get at me if u want a copy, i have one i am not using i will sell it through amazon if offered a decent price.
