Amazon.co.uk Review
Michael Gerber's The E-Myth Revisited should be required reading for anyone thinking about starting a business or for those who have already taken that fateful step. The title refers to the author's belief that entrepreneurs--typically brimming with good but distracting ideas--make poor businesspeople. He establishes an incredibly organised and regimented plan, so that daily details are scripted, freeing the entrepreneur's mind to build the long-term success or failure of the business. You don't need an MBA to understand or follow its directives; Gerber takes time to explain buzzwords and complex theories. Written in a clear and well-paced manner, The E-Myth Revisited is like receiving advice from an old friend. --Sharon Griggins
Customer Reviews:Thought provoking business book
I was recommmended to read this book by an accountant friend of mine - he said that reading it had given him many ideas for his business. Now I've read it, I can see why he said that. This book is possibly the single most important book any would-be entrepreneur should read before they start to build their business. Their success will be much more likely if they do.
Essential, absolutely essential
You only have one life. If you are running a small business and you haven't read this book, you are very probably - heartbreakingly - sacrificing the best years of it grappling around in the dark. It's that simple - get this book and read it. I would be staggered if it didn't fundamentally change the way you go about running and, more importantly, planning your business.
Once you realise the enormity of what the book is suggesting, it can in 200-odd pages only scratch the surface of what needs to be done. Mr Gerber unsurprisingly runs courses to teach how to go about tackling the issues the book raises in your business. Don't worry though - the book is not a promotional tool to get you to sign up. It is an indispensable eye-opener that will set the small business owner on the right path.
It's maybe light on detail, it won't give you the killer idea to rescue any business that's so far past success that it's on its knees, but no matter - read it if you are a business owner, and prepare to open your eyes.
A simple little bible
I loved this book. Despite being a little out of date in style, the basics of business never change and for those setting out on a new venture who are unclear about what they are tryng to achieve, this is like a little bedside bible.
Sound but Simple
This book offers a valid insight into the dilemma faced by many small business owners: how to balance the role of entrepreneur, manager and technician. The author gives good advice, reminding business owners not just to concentrate on technical work; indeed, as the author points out, you should work on your business, not in it. However, the book never really kicks on past this rather laboured point and consequently the book could probably be significantly condensed.
Worthwhile if only to remind business owners where their priorities should lie, but not the most thought-provoking book you'll ever read.
Excellent Read
This book is amazing. Well worth buying. Really helps you understand the myths and magic of having your own business and empowers you to believe you can do it and will achieve your goals.
