Customer Reviews:Good book but tough to read
I picked up this book because I heard many successful individuals talk about the teachings of Benjamin Franklin. He was the first writer of how-to-succeed books. The only negative about this book is the difficulty in reading it because of the old style English. However, it was educational. I liked some of the quotes from this book.
"Think what you do when you run in debt: you give another Power over your Liberty."
"The borrower is a slave to the lender, and the debtor to the creditor."
"When people's incomes are lessened, if they cannot proportionately lessen their outgoings, they must come to poverty."
"In death there is no difference between dying worth a great sum and dying in debt for a great sum."
"Laziness travels so slowly that Poverty soon overtakes him."
- Mariusz Skonieczny, author of Why Are We So Clueless about the Stock Market? Learn how to invest your money, how to pick stocks, and how to make money in the stock market
Makes for a sobering and funny read
Although the author wrote this book almost exactly 250 years ago the advice is still just as true and relevant today as it was back then. This book is full of sound advice about attitudes to life, work and money management. Many of the sayings that Franklin included are still in use today such as "no pain, no gain" As we all reflect on the folly of recent times with excessive consumer borrowing and our obsession with accruing stuff be it cars, the latest fashion, expensive meals and generally over spending then this little book makes for a sobering read. It's just full of little life tips and fables and is not dull or depressing. I liked it so much I am buying copies for my kids. We tend to think we are so much wiser and more enlightened than our ancestors and in some respects of course we are but I urge people to read this book and I am confident you will learn some life lessons from it.
Succinct but full of wisdom
A great little book, that teaches a lot in a few pages. Keep it in your Jacket's pocket and read it whenever you have a minute to spare.
A very practical read for especially busy executives; it should take maybe less than a hour.
Great Book!
Ben says it all with lots of "catchy" sayings! It is a must read for anyone -- including children/young adults.
A must read for everyone seeking to learn about wealth.
No Harvard MBA would be complete without the wisdom contained within this little book. A captivating story line with principles and nuggets of truth just leaping off of the page. Will it take a week to progress start to finish? No , hardly an hour!
