Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother
Disappointed inasmuch as I found it too heavy to hold and not the type of book you could hold comfortably for a good long read. I thought there was too much history rather than information about the Queen Mother. I feel the author made the Queen appear too sugary sweet and that was rather off-putting. I am half way through and have put it aside for a while to see if I'm drawn back to it. smw

Having been presented to Her Majesty and realising how close she was to her subjects I was delighted when Her official biography was published giving me the opportunity to learn more of her private life.For many years I hsave heard anecdotes connected with her formative years, her background and snippets of how she approached the daunting task of becoming Queen and of facing life without her late husband. All this and more I have learned from her biography. Reading the biography was made particularly enjoyable as I am of the same generation, albeit a few years younger,and I am certain that this is history made easy. I am of the opinion that all generations will enjoy this book and gain much from it. As is so frequently written, more than just a good read.
My first visit to Amazon UK and I meet the Queen!
As you can tell by my review title, I'm new to Amazon UK. I figure I must own stock in Amazon here in the US (as I buy so often) and it was time to see what is across the pond. This book is just wonderful - a long read, but worth it. History of the British Monarchy facinates me to no end! And the shipping and condition of the book was what I have come to expect from Amazon - prompt, well packaged and always in off the shelf condition - but cheaper! Thank you!

An exceptional life revealed
The author reveals a great deal about the late Queen Mother much of which many will know little. The book reveals the steely and determined side of HM's character alongside the caring, loving, wife, mother and grandmother of her devoted family. Some have critised the book as being too deferential but I think it an accurate reflection of the much respected and loved matriarch.
