Customer Reviews:
Good buy at a good price
Having been on the look out for a relatively cheap DVD recorder to transfer recordings from my Sky+ box, and video to disc this caught my attention when browsing Amazon.

Having been three or four years since the last review of this product, the appearance of one for sale immediately lead me to believe it may well have been a refurbished unit.

Despite that the price was attractive and generally positive reviews which confirmed it would do what I needed it do, made it worth the gamble.

Delivery was swift from Amazon and I was immediately impressed by the connectivity at the rear of the unit.

With a TV, Home Cinema Unit, Wii and video recorder all competing for space I was concerned that this would be a gadget too far to connect up and it did take a certain amount of footering about until I got to a point where I was able to record from by Sky+ box to disc. Video to disc recordings I have yet to attempt.

The quality of the recording was generally really good and I confirmed it worked on both the Ellion unit and a TV/DVD combi where again the recorded disc worked fine.

The one quirk and drawback I found was that to record I required to leave my TV set on. Generally I'm recording half a dozen or so CSI episodes at a time to send to the old dear and used to set the video, Sky+ box, turn off the telly and get the tape in the morning. Not ideal then if I want to do that, having to leaving the telly on all night.

Overall though given the price, I'm happy with my purchase.

rubbish!
It is such a shame that this does not do what it says on the tin! It sounded so promising so I took a gamble with it. Have only had it one day and got it to record once and I am going to send it right back and get a more expensive one which will WORK! Everytime I try to get it to record it flashes an error message and the firmware update that others have mentioned in their reviews are now no available. Piece of pants! Wish I had listened to the negative reviews instead of paying attention to the positive ones which sound to me like people are giving credit where it is definitely not due!

avoid at all cost! if goes wrong, and it will, you just try and get any satisfaction from the service dept. worst bit of kit i have ever bought!!!

absolute pants
We bought this 2 years ago and at first it seemed fine, then it started corrupting discs that were recorded on other DVD recorders. Recently it stopped reading even the discs it had previously recorded so we just used it as a player of prerecorded DVDs. But it finally packed up yesterday with a precious DVD in it which it refused to eject.
My husband had to dismantle it to retrieve the disc and we were shocked at what we saw inside. One of the circuit boards had snapped off and was just loose in the box and some of the resistors were all bent and twisted on the other boards. My husband works in IT and had never seen anything like it. If we had seen the inside two years ago it would have gone straight back. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!

Excellent DVD Recorder and Value for Money
I purchased this from Amazon nearly 6 months ago and have not had any problems with it at all. It was a little hard to understand how to get it to record off the TV at first but soon it was a doddle. I can not understand why other's have reviewed this with one star as I can play any RW discs and have never had a problem with the minus ones. All I can think of is that they must be putting the disc in the wrong way round. If this is the case then they should understand that discs are not batteries! Anyway the unit is a very good buy for anyone on a tight budget that is looking to upgrade from a video recorder etc. It not only looks smart it is a really good recorder. I have never tried to record on -RW but it definately plays -RW. I always give products 6 months before I review them and in my eyes this deserves 5 stars.
