    Customer Reviews:
    Colourful and versatile organiser
I bought this to replace Treepad. Essentially it does what Treepad (a great tree-based note collector) does - organises your notes (research, pictures, quick notes etc) in one location, within notebooks that are collected in a simple Sidepane. What sets it apart from Treepad is its look and feel. I become a much more focused person when the software I'm using is a breeze to use and looks refresingly modern and vibrant, and this ticks both boxes. The Notebooks themselves can take subtrees, and each page can hold a number of sub-pages. The font (Calibri) is a smart sans serif, adding to the clean modern feel.

Its not without its niggles. The template option (where you can set a page to whatever design you want to, and then have it repeat on newly-created pages within a notebook, is fussy and not very intuitive. A simple toolbar button / dropdown menu would be preferable to the right-side pane options that can be confusing, and differ from similar options that appear when you attempt to create a template by righ-clicking the page. I like the creativity of this idea but its poor implementation means life is easier if you just stick with the default blank page.

Another niggle is the help manual, or help dialog box in this case. It looks attractive but i found the content lacking in substance, and I used trial and error to learn the program, over its basic instructions.

But these are minor niggles.Treepad is such a useful program that i still use it for bookmarking websites, but for me, this is the true dedicated note organizer. It can even link to audio / video clips. Recommended at Amazon's price.

    Using WORD at last
Does just what it says on the box. Good product significantly cheaper that the high street - like almost half price cheaper.
    Great.

    fine program, woolly pricing structure
This program was included in the software that came with my other, new computer. I liked it and wanted to install it on my computer at work as well. Unfortunately it was ridiculously expensive when downloaded from the Dutch Microsoft site and, for me, non-downloadable from the US site!

Looking around, Amazon was the best price I could get - 40% of the official price in the Netherlands!

So, full marks to Amazon UK but a BIG demerit to Microsoft for squeezing each market separately and making programs far too expensive abroad. I would have bought/downloaded another program if Amazon hadn't had OneNote, for there is no way I was going tot pay 110 euros for it.

    I love it
I've been looking for something as good as this for grouping relevant notes, links and files and never realised it already existed until a workmate started using it. It was so useful for work (notes from meetings being the obvious first) and saved all the notebooks I usually doodle in (yes, I miss the doodling, but only a little) that I bought this copy for use at home for all those projects that need bits of paper everywhere. Fabulous product! I just wish all the keyboard shortcuts from Word worked in here. For some reason they don't.

    Very Good information management system
I do a lot of private research in many subject areas and this is the best product I have found for the price that allows you to collate information from many electronic sources.

In essence OneNote allows you to create a virtual filing cabinet with different draws into which you can place folders that have notes and sub-notes. The notes and sub-notes can contain virtually any data format including images, drawings, voice or text. During installation plug-ins are added to your Office products and Explorer enabling information to be imported to OneNote very easily and this makes research on the Web very efficient.

Non MS applications 'see' OneNote as an installed printer so any file that can be printed can be sent to OneNote. If you do not want to import the data you can just import a hyperlink to any file on your system.

Most other information management tools that I have used implement a keyword system so that you can quickly find all information associated with a particular subject but the problem with this approach is that you have decide upon your keywords upfront. OneNote goes one step further by suggesting that you install the Windows desktop search application that allows you to do a freeform text based search from your desktop of all of your storage devices, including all of the information in OneNote. The drawback of this utility is that it can dramatically slow the performance of your machine when updating its indexes. As far as I can tell OneNote works fine without this search facility and it is only really needed if you are a serious researcher so if you have a machine with anything less than a top range Pentium 4 processor I would try to live without it.

The installation of OneNote was painless and I have been using it for several months without any application crashes and it is very easy to use.

Highly recommended for anyone who needs to structure and search large amounts of information from different sources.
