Big problems with MS Word compatibility
Pages in iWork is good and fast-opening, if you keep all your files in Pages format.
But save a file in .doc format, and only the simplest files survive closing and then opening. I found that columns, or text boxes, when saved in .doc format are scrambled when opened in Pages, or opened in Word or in Open Office. And files saved in .doc format by Word or Open Office have the columns and text boxes in the wrong places when opened in Pages.
Or can anyone tell me how to transfer files from Pages to Word and vice versa?
Office substitue?
A complete substitute would probably be pushing it a bit but it will do all that 95% of users would wish. I have not explored all the programs in depth but the spreadsheet does everything I want as a simple database and a more complex spreadsheet. Straight forward word processing is more than adequately covered.
iWorks 09
I found this Software well developed and it made working with iWorks 08 even easier, it goes with the whole range of iMac products that I use. Very satisfied.

Not much to say here; the obligatory update of the Apple software, does what it says on the tin; it's streets ahead of Appleworks though, and intuitive to use as are all things Apple.
An Excellent Apple Product
I have just recently moved over to the Apple camp, I meeded a Word Processor and Spreadsheet. I tried Microsoft Office for the Mac but found that Word was just too different from the the PC version so I decided I would give Iwork a try, and I found that it gave me everything I needed. What is also impressive is the wasy That the Mac will read Microsoft Documents and TEMPLATES. This has made my move easy.
