The Dark Knight arrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralysed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.

In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director/co-writer Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimed Batman Begins with an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies like Spider-Man 2 and Iron Man because of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knight is a film for the ages. --David Horiuchi

Why so serious?
Superb! If you just bought your blu-ray player, like me, that's the best choice to try it out!

Anyone with half a brain knows this is the Batman film to end all Batman films, and probably the best comic book based film yet made. The question is how good is the Blu Ray? Well, as a keen collector of Blu Rays with a superb home system I can honestly say that along with Blade Runner, this is the best transfer I've seen. The picture is so crisp, sharp and detailed it is simply astonishing. Watch it on a good system and you won't see a better picture and more beautiful transfer anywhere (the afforementioned Blade Runner IS as good, but it is not better!). The sound is staggering as well. Perhaps the only let down is the extras which are okay but not amazing. If you've got a PS3 or top quality Blu Ray player and a 1080p hi-def tv, this is the film you should put on to convert hi-def sceptics. A must own.

hype is neccessary
Ever since the enormous success of "Batman Begins" people have been calling it the best comic movie of all time, and once he released a sequel the pressure was on to make it even better. (no easy feat) with some of the best advertising of modern days everyone was anticipating Dark Knight and when star Heath Ledgers (brokeback mountain, a knights tale) unfortunate death well everyone was even more anxious too see the result and here it is, outstanding:

Dark knight captures the essence of a good movie in every way possible, from the start it hooks the viewer in taking them on a ride featuring twists and turns that will test every emotion in there body. to put it simply: the film is brilliant, 5 stars, amazing, a new breakthrough in cinema history. Hans zimmer creates a sensational soundtrack that adds and never distracts from the mood of the film, the stunts and special effects are revolutionary. and the acting is absolutely brilliant, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhall, Gary Oldman: some of the biggest names in todays cinema all live up to there hollywood hype, but we must mention Heath Ledger in another light, his performance will go down as one of the best in cinema history, words can't describe how intense it is, so i'll let you see for yourself:

Dark Knight Blu-Ray
Since upgrading my home entertainment system to high def I haven't really found a movie to show it off...until now!
Throughout the movie as I'm sure many of you know by now the aspect ratio changes in parts where IMAX is used. These scenes are simply stunning, It's like looking through a window when you're watching it. Personally I think the aspect ratio changing works well. The sound in this movie is unbelievable as well. PICTURE AND AUDIO 10/10!

Now the movie. Fantastic! Honestly one of the best movies I've watched in a long time. Ledger steals the show with his brilliant performance but thats not to say the rest of the cast weren't excellent. An action-packed, emotional movie which really stands out from the crowd. I wasn't a big fan of superhero movies but was persuaded to watch The Dark Knight. Blown away! I recommend everyone watch this movie whether you're a Batman fan or not. If you want an exceptional movie which also shows off your high def equipment then buy this... Highly Recommended!

joker- got to much atension
dont get me wrong i loved the movie, the joker- way cool. but not as good as the kritiks want the preformance to be. sympati kritiks.
