The Big O ![]()
This was a present for a special friend who loved Roy Orbison. The only problem with it is that it sounds so much better on my system that we only listen to it here. No reflection on the cd but as my system is as old as the records it sounds so much more authentic.
A must for all Big-O fans! ![]()
Brilliant! I didn't know much of his early stuff before listening to this and it has increased my admiration for his wonderful singing.
You have made my dreams come through ![]()
This has got to be the best album of Roy O that I have ever heard. I thought I had all his records until I bought the The Soul Of Rock and Roll. Along with his familiar songs such as Dream Baby there were several that I had not heard before including Walk On. It was great that they were listed and you could listen to the record before you ordered them. Fantastic!
Roy Orbison-The Soul of Rock & Roll 4 CD Boxset. ![]()
The ultimate Roy Orbison Collection without doubt!Starting with his early Sun singles when he was just finding his voice it was quickly aparent that Orbison's talent was ballads, and when he signed for the Monument label the Classics followed thick and fast!.
Only the Lonely,In dreams,Blue Bayou,Running Scared,Crying,Pretty Woman etc were just a few of his hits with that label and when he toured England he was even on top of a bill which included The Beatles!.
Towards the late eighties Orbison signed a very lucrative deal with MGM and left Monument and despite the high quality of his work his time with that label was comparitively unsuccessful.
For the next ten years Orbison played Cabaret, and small theatres, but his live show was still impressive and pulled in the punters!.
In the late eighties Orbison enjoyed a comeback of epic proportions as people like Bruce Springsteen,Tom Petty,George Harrison,Jackson Browne etc called him a huge influence on their work.He fianlly joined "The Travelling Wibury's" which consisted on Bob Dylan,Tom Petty,Jeff Lynne, and George Harrison and they enjoyed a top ten hit with "Handle with care".
Orbisons final Album Mystery Girl came out just before his death and was a fitting tribute to a pop legend, and this was also produced by Jeff Lynne. It also contained his final top ten hit"You've got it"
This Boxset contains many of his classic songs and represents all of Orbison;s career, and is highly recommended. If you haven't heard the man buy a single "Greatest Hits" CD,and then I am pretty sure your next port of call will be this Boxset.
