Works as it should in general but would benefit from a more robust cable as it is not always recognised by the computer but overall does what it says on the tin
Very useful for backups
This is a very slim and unobtrusive drive which is ideal for taking backups that are going to be stored for safe keeping. It works well without needing its own power source and at a good speed. Small enough to put in your pocket - even when in the optional carry case.
Awesome little drive...
Very small and light. Plug it in and off you go. 500MBs of extra storage instantly :-)
Works well for a portable HD
Works well as a portable Hard drive. I downloaded Seagate's Disc Wizard to take an image of my computer and it seems to work well. It has space to store all my files and is conveniently bigger than my notebooks hard drive so I can backup with the knowledge that all my files will fit on one device.
brilliant, robust drive but software isn't as good
I use an external drive very heavily to back up all my photographic data. I wanted a slimline portable drive and when the chance came to test out this nice looking Seagate, I jumped at the chance.
The hardware is beautifully designed - the drive is thinner than I thought it would be, well constructed and designed (it looks good with pretty white LED indicator lights) and feels robust. It also works very well - quietly and quickly with no fuss. Quick means (as another reviewer mentions - about 30MB/s transfer speeds for pictures which I'm very happy with).
I've used this drive for a month now and backed up all my photoshop/Lightroom and other assorted jpeg files - I've hardly touched it's 500GB capacity yet either. I'm very happy with the drive which I would give 5-stars for, but the software that comes with the drive felt a little buggy - on my first back-up the software hung and then crashed (the files did transfer though) to desktop. This has happened a couple of times since (on Vista) and I'm hoping that a very recent software update from Seagate (plus my switch to Windows 7) will resolve this. The drive rates 5-stars, the software 3-stars, so overall it gets 4.
A real bargain for the price - if you want affordable storage and lots of it for your pictures or video files, you won't regret purchasing this Seagate drive.
