easier than I thought ![]()
I was a bit worried about installing it but at the end I was relativly easy.
Good value for money!
Good for the Price, a little noisy and slower than expected ![]()
easy enough to setup, seems to take a fair while for data to copy over so if you want a fast access device this is not really for you. Bit torrent client makes it a useful device, and is perfect for storing and streaming video/music. Its fairly noisy, so I have to keep it turned off, not really sure why it has to be so noisy as I have a usb harddrive and it makes nowhere near as much noise. But so far I am happy with purchase.
Buffalo Nas (illmatic) ![]()
So far this NAS has been a breeze to use. The only feature I havent used is the Apple Time Machine due to the lack of a mac, which is fortunate as a friend at work who has the same NAS has had a small problem with this app and his mac over wireless connection (drop outs). Cabled its fine apparently.
Power settings, spin down are all well received. Torrent client is good to, combined with a dynamic dns service allows you to operate remotely from work :)
Only problem I'm yet to solve is the web admin and remote users. All works on other machines, connections but still cant login via my ipod touch, authenticated. This seems to be a known problem which would suggest a resolve soon, or some better explaination on howto.
Shame its not a raid striped couple of drives for fail safe reasons but you cant complain when you see the price.
DLNA server works fine to, with the xbox 360. No problems at all (just dont forget to refresh the media server once new content is added if you wish to watch it straigh away). Does allow the 360 to see cover or album art which is a shame but its nothing to do with the NAS, more the 360 wanting a windows media server (picky microsoft)
Memeo backup software that comes with it is quite good to. Unobtrusive and works!
Al in all a good addition (base repo) to the home network.
Excellent product - until it fails ![]()
I've had 2 of these units now - the first had a hard disk failure when 2 months old, and was fully refunded. I chose to buy another one as the product really is great to use... but it's now 6 months old and appears to have terminal failure (completely dead). I won't be buying another one - whilst Buffalo support is excellent, I haven't got time to keep on changing the unit and reloading data.
For those who get lucky with a unit that doesn't fail - this is an excellent product. Very easy to setup, works a treat for storage, iTunes server and video streaming. Didn't try it as a print server or for BitTorrent. Adding a USB drive to it allows automated backup via the setup application and/or additional storage space over the network. I'm very disappointed about the reliability issue.
