Product Description
Expert Pdf Pro 6.0 DVD Win (mini box)

Customer Reviews:
Don't buy if you have Windows Vista!
I read reviews saying this won't work with Vista 64-bit. I have 32-bit and it still doesn't work. In short, don't buy this product if you have Vista. And of course, if it doesn't work, you're stuffed, as you can't send it back!

PDF creator plus
This is a nice piece of software that enables most kind of documents to be converted to a PDF file which can then guarantee that the file is the same when somonelse opens it on a different system, and is also a smaller file size in most cases to the Word or other document that created it. Software installed ok and is easy to use.
The main selling point for this software is the fact that you can also edit your PDFs once created rather than starting the creatative process anew if changes are required.

There are numerous options for combining and merging documents which I have yet to try, but they may be usefull features in the future.

All PDF file that you have on your computer already will now default to opening with this program, which will mean that the file icons will all change and you will probably not need to use Adobe in the future.

Good software if you are into creating a lot of documents that you wish to remain standard in there layout.

Real disappontment
Due to my error in buying a new Sony Vaio computer with Vista, I found that my Adobe 7 professional would not run on my computer. Now I did contemplate upgrading to Adobe Acrobat 9 but financially could not justify the expenditure. So I read the reviews and bouth Expert PDF. Mistake.

Loaded up ok but immediately I had problems printing documents to it. I re-installed then found that the programme would not open on-line documents from third party websites I need to work with. Answer, get my old computer out whch still had Adobe Acrobat on and use that.

I write third party reports and this software just does not print them. I have now taken it completely off my computer and am upgrading (free I am happy to say, except for postage) to Windows 7. Hopefully Windows 7 is backward compatable to Adobe Acrobat otherwise I will upgrade to version 9of Acrobat. I would rather stick hot pins in my eyes, as Jack Nicholson says, then use this softeare which promises a lot and delivers a little.

Woefully bad software
This is an example of bad software engineering, the issues start during the install process. A nice little dialog asks would you like to register, I chose register later as I was not connected to my network at the time, however rather than taking into consideration my choice a registration dialog box appeared. A bit further into the installation, which had been running for about 15 minuites at this point, I noticed there was an additional icon on my task bar, an error had occoured when trying to install some component. Rather than displaying a dialog box which explained the error in the foreground, the designers had decided the error dialog should be in the background so it would remain unnoticed, even when I found it it was still very unhelpful. It turns out the error was due to the pdf printer driver not being supported under 64 bit operating systems; a very easy thing to check for and display a nice warning message, like most good software vendors do.

Then when the application is installed, the user interface is absolutely horrendous, there is a background image behind the main menu which makes it difficult to see some of the menu items. The functionality is very poor, not much more than the free addon for Microsoft office products allowing you to save as a pdf.

Excellent PDF Convertion program
Expert PDF 6 comes in a normal size box. You then open it up and there is one CD just sitting on its own - nothing else. That's a waste of cardboard and space!

There are no instructions in the box - they are all on the PDF file (42 pages) which comes on the disc. I would have liked at least a Quick Overview in print format.

Basically (as it says in the guide) eXPert PDF 6 is "a print driver that generates PDF documents from any application that can print out. You can therefore create a PDF document from any application as if you were printing to any other printer."

In Microsoft Word or Excel an eXPert PDF tab will magically appear in the menu bar when you've installed the software. Three buttons will appear and these will allow quick conversion of your document to the PDF format.

You can also convert the documents by selecting File > Print and then choosing the Visage eXPert PDF printer from pretty much any other type of doc.

The CREATOR module is then automatically started and allows you to view and/or edit the document, or save it directly to PDF.

The Creator Module:
As it says in the blurb "the user-friendly interface for eXPert PDF 6 enables you to easily access all the tools required to work on your PDF documents". Which is perfectly true - it does! The toolbar has 7 buttons allowing you a number of operations: Print, Edit, PDF settings, View PDF, Save, E-mail PDF & Help.
The Work Area allows manipulation of your newly created PDF. You can add your own Watermark - created to your own spec (the guide explains this adequately how to go about this).

The Editor Module:
The Application interface for this consists of two parts - the document window pane and the navigation pane; with a toolbar at the top and a status bar at the bottom. This editing a PDF simple enough -there are lots of different features here. You can manage pages here: inserting, moving, extracting or deleting pages. You can manage bookmarks, text, links or images here. You can also add comments (notes)
You can also add or remove protection to a document here.
The Working with Forms section allows you to create a number of interactive items: buttons, combo boxes, list boxes, checkboxes, radio buttons & text boxes.

The Batch PDF Module allows you to convert TO a PDF from another type of document.

The PDF Convertor Module enables you create a RTF (Rich Text Format) file FROM a PDF file.

It says it is compatible with Windows 2000, XP or Vista, however I have only tried it on Windows XP - and it worked fine.

So, how did I find this software? You've got to report how you find it yourself. Everything I've tried (and I have put it through all its paces) I have found it works perfectly adequately. The interfaces are clear and intuitive and I was pleasantly surprised that the manual is clear and easy to read.

If you want to convert PDFs from other types of files or conversely want to create RTFs FROM PDFs and you have been unable to find a decent free one on the market (as I wasn't able to) then this is an excellent alternative.
