Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 internal hard drive ![]()
I recently bought this internal hard drive as I needed higher capacity storage. I often buy items from Amazon as I know it to be a trusted supplier that has never let me down, and sure enough the item was delivered promptly as always. Seagate is also a trusted brand and I have several external hard drives from this manufacturer as well. The drive was fitted and it just works, and I know it will just keep on working. What more can you want from a device!
Does the job ![]()
I have two of these running in my media server. They have been operating 24/7 for the last 12 months with no problem. Obviously backed up though!
Quiet, Fairly Quick Massive ![]()
Ticks all the boxes for a harddrive for me; its quiet, quick and stores a lot of data. Its first job in my Mac Pro is a set of new virtual machines; these all boot up quickly when needed; and the disk isnt as vocal as some older seagate hard drives.
Watch out if you connect over eSATA in XP ![]()
I'd had quite a few problems with this drive (connected to an eSATA docking station) and ended up returning it. In Windows XP it was taking itself offline with SMART errors, saying that the disk was about to fail. Before that it gave me a bunch of delayed write failures. I didn't turn up much info on forums apart from that I should return it, so that's what I did.
However I did order a like-for-like replacement & as soon as it turned up I received the same errors.. so it wasn't a faulty disk (like the forums suggested). Connecting it directly to the PC over standard SATA cables actually worked.. so it was something to do with eSATA.
As it happened I installed Windows 7 the other day and tried the disk again (in the eSATA dock) and it formatted fine & copied on 250Gb of data without a hitch. Looks like it's a Windows XP and eSATA issue. Maybe the firmware update that one of the other reviewers mentions will sort out the issue in XP. I might raise it with their support guys.
