Worth it - for pc users
This product saved me money by allowing me to use Microsoft Office in Mac OSX. It's a funny old utility but has a coherence mode allowing you to drag documents to and from both operating systems. This is helpful for digging up documents (e.g. CVs, images, etc) that you usually access in Bootcamp and then attaching them to emails etc.
It should be remembered that this is a Virtual Machine program. It therefore is not able to use your graphics card accelorator for 3D rendering or use. This is because Nvidia and ATI did not program their software for the Virtual Machine. As far as I know anyway.
Sadly with Virus Software updating so regularly these days, performance of Windows XP in Parallels' 4.0 Virtual Machine is usually ground to a halt. I do not use the computer everyday and am often online at weekends when updates are most frequently downloaded for home users. Naturally Mac OS drivers access their hardware components a little faster than Windows XP drivers but that's not a major issue. Another thing, Parallels limits memory use in Windows XP to 2.7GB working on a 4GB availability. So you lose out on a third of memory. But hey it's a Virtual OS.
The packaging in which Parallels arrived was minimal and neat. It was therefore good for both the environment and the senses. This is a somewhat smug review but I am smug MacBook Pro user. What what. Hey, the selling point of this software is that it saves you ten minutes rebooting with Boot Camp!

I purchased Parallels after reading the excellent review, alas the first copy failed to even register in the super drive, as too did the second. The refund policy on amazon is fair, although the download version of this software comes with the support of the programmers who's statement was Amazon purchase, Amazon problem," Return to sender".
Great application... Can be better on folders sharing with OS X
This is a great application to enable use of Windows... Does what it says it will do. Strongly recommend if you need to use windows. 2 things can be better; folder sharing with OS X and virus / firewall control. Constantly gives warning messages for internet security despite updates. The security control is a bit complicated. Regardless, for concurrent use of OS X and windows, no other option can beat it in a Mac.
So far so good
I bought this because I need to be able to run a full-blown copy of Excel, not just the Mac version. It seems to be working fine for me. Very pleased with it so far. Also comes in handy on unexpected occasions when something or other (such as an on-line conferencing site) just doesn't want to play nice on the Mac.
This works!
Been using this for a while mostly for running Office 2007 because Office 2008 (MAC version) has no Access or VBA.
Seems to work very well and minor issue with USB sorted promptly by excellent email technical support. A company that seems to value its customers.
