Humax FOXSAT-HDR Freesat+ 320GB HD PVR Digital Box- Installation Recommended
Humax
Customer Reviews:Buy one
I got one in October this year. I also have a Panasonic PVR which is to say the least is complication in a box. The Humax is simple to use and understand, yes the remote could be better. Overall 100% pleased.
Humax Freesat Recorder
Easy to install and setup
Beware of the following issues
1. You must install 2 cables to your satallite dish, and possibly buy and install a new dish if your existing one will not take two cables
2. MANY channels share the same wavelength and so you CANNOT record one and watch another where this is the case - most unsatisfactory since this is not explained anywhere
Good Buy Not So Good Manual
Having completed a large amount of research prior to purchase the Humax box generally came out as the best FreeSat box on the market. Ordered though Amazon as almost the best price available it arrived within three days of ordering though the free delivery service.
Having an existing Murdock satellite system connection to the FreeSat box and switch on was simple and was just a case of diconnecting the existing system and connect up the new, all operated without a hitch.
The system is generally straight forward to use although initial operation of the menu system took a little to get used to and understanding of what on occasions is actually happening within the box when recording. This is due to the main issue with the box which is the manual (Or my understanding of it!!) As there is no explanation of the front panel and what all the on display messages are (Some are obvious) This together with a lack of explanation of how if required transfer of recorded programmes between the recorder and an external HDD or other devise though the USB port is not covered at all in the manual. To date I have not attempted this for lack of detail and it is early days but one of the thoughts was to attach a large HDD to the box to use as an archive for good programming (Should a HDD be attached then this may become obvious but as stated there is no explanation in the manual as to how it will operate)This is the reason for the overall marking down of the system from five to four star!!
Apart from the above the Humax box delivers what it says with high quality picture and sound and I would recommend it if you require free high quality satellite programming with a recording facility. Glad that we now have a free alternative to Murdock and his cronies that hopefully will grow in content over the comming years !!
First Class Unit
This box was easy to set up and worked stright away. Picture quality is first class, everthing on it is first class.
Not quite Perfect - but very good indeed.
Over all this product is very good indeed. From other reviews that I have read, most of the complaints are a bit 'nit-picking'.
The main complaint that I have is when recording, if the programme runs a minute or two over, you lose the last bit - most frustrating.
Granted you can set it up to start early and finish late, but then if you are recording the following programme, it will report a conflict.
Otherwise it does mostly that which the sky+ box will do and sometimes better. The tv guide is now laid out in a usable format I find the x64 fast forward a boon when getting rid of the adverts or 'half-time' during a recorded football match. The live pause works well and when setting up to record from the tv guide, it will give you choices like - standard or HD tv - single recording or series. The hard drive is enormous and with our households need for recording most things to watch later, that is brilliant. Of course there is the 'lack of sport facilities' compared with sky but that is more a free-sat issue rather than the ability of the box itself. The 'god-machine' (remote control) is designed pretty well considering the number of functions requiring buttons, but I can understand that someone with large fingers, would find one or two buttons awkward to use, mainly the fast forward, stop and play.
I and the rest of the household are extremely pleased with our purchase and although it is running alongside sky at the moment, it will very soon usurp this monopoly and be an excellent, stand alone entertainment machine.
