Customer Reviews:
Samsungs brilliant netbook
i bought this netbook for my wife, who is a teacher, but not a computer fan. It has transformed her computing skills, due to its ease of use.
I am most impressed with the incredible battery power, relative speed, hard disc capacity, lightness, build quality, small size but more than adequate keyboard & the general lack of problems encountered with this netbook. 1gb RAM has proved has proved to be sufficient, surprisingly.
My only (minor) criticism is that the colour (pink) is a bit naff.
When the price of the new Windows 7 version with 250gb hard disc comes down a bit, I shall probably buy one for myself, as I understand that the battery lasts even longer. I hope they do it in black...
Well done Samsung!

Pretty in Pink
I hunted down the pink version of the NC10, I'm not usually so girly, it was simply the most attractive shade of the model.

The NC10 has a good battery life, clear screen and smooth operating system. It it good for all internet related activities, including uploading photos and vidoes. It does struggle a little with on demand tv downloads (pictures more than audio).

I bought it as a means of having internet on the go and a method for writing/reading when I am travelling and combined with mobile broadband or wi-fi it does the job. At hme I have a large PC and monitor and you must, when buying a netbook, bear in mind that the two are very different items for different purposes - don't expect PC/laptop capability from a netbook! That said, you will be pleased with the capability.

The NC10 fits easily into a handbag and comes with a basic travel sleeve.

I have just purchased a travel mouse for the NC10 - the pad can be a bit tricky when you are using mobile broadband with a low signal strength, or moving between tabs.

Fairly happy
The netbook itself is very good, battery life is impressive, screen quality better than expected.

There are a few quirks that need getting used to, especially the location of the \ key for web addresses. However the reason for docking 1 star from the overall score is it should have had an option to upgrade to Windows 7. Other netbooks/laptops from Samsung that are bundled with Vista are free to upgrade but this does not qualify.

A great laptop
I bought this laptop in June for my daughter and it's great. It's very pink & sexy, but also practical. She loves it and it's been a great buy. It packs allot in for the money and we've had no problems at all with it.

I hate this machine - great disapointment
I bought this machine to replace a Philips x66 11". The Philips contained an optical drive (dvd rom, write etc) and ran on Vistas. Instead of forking out another £800 I thought, why not go back to Windows XP as my primary use is to transport the machine to and from college (I am a university lecturer) and to use powerpoint. Although I knew I would miss the Vistas gadgets and the optical drive, all the reviews I read - and I mean ALL stated that you could simply plug in an external DVD player and watch films. Also, everyone harked on about the wonderful battery life and the sharp screen.

Instead of writing pros and cons I shall just write the cons - because this machine, asides from being 278 at the outset and not 800 has no pros. I think, either the people who gave this machine 5 stars have never owned a small laptop before or they do not use it extensively or they only want it for basic stuff and are happy with what is on offer or are really quite clueness as to what a great machine actually looks like. Here are my comments:

1. The screen - it is not crystal clear or sharp but hazy; reminiscent of screens back in the mid 90s - you begin to understand the price very quickly
2. The battery - yes, it has the potential to last 7 hours if you want to type on a dark screen - but keep the screen at normal brightness and the battery lasts for 4 hours - ok but my old Windows 95 12" texas also ran at 4 hours - and I bought that in 1992!
3. No it does not have an optical drive - so no you cannot plug in an external dvd player and watch films (why oh why has no one mentioned this?) You can plug in an external dvd player to download software but to watch films you need a Codex or dvd decoder - this costs around £50. If you spend this however, you will notice that the speakers will be so quiet you will need to purchase additional speakers - think along the lines of paying around £100 more all together (not including office software)
4. Yes you can download office xp - powerpoint and word work fine but the poor screen resolution means that the powerpoint display is not as crisp as you'd find on a ... don't know the technical term - an older laptop....
5. Heaviness - those reviewers who state that the machine is light and can be put in a large handback are living on another planet. This machine weighs the same as my Philips X66 but as I said, THAT contained an optical disk drive and Vistas and a clear screen and great speakers and oh, I miss my baby.... This machine is heavy and the keyboard which people have said is great for fat fingers is simply oversized; for me, a small fingered person who is actually used to typing on small keypads, the size is ridiculous; it could have been smaller thus reducing the size of the laptop. As for the touch pad which folks also complain about - this does lead me to believe once again that these reviewers have not had a mini lap top before; it's fine, exactly the same as all the others.
6. Dual drive. The hard drive will partition itself into two parts. This cannot be avoided unless you call Samsung before turning on the machine. The purpose of the partition is that if one drive fails the other will work, however you need to deliberately save your work to the split D drive for this to be of benefit - otherwise it has no benefit except cutting down the memory on the machine considerably. For this reason alone I would not buy a Samsung and I do not intend to buy one again.
7. Watching BBC Iplayer. Unlike my Philips you cannot watch HD TV programs on this machine - the processor simply wont take it.
8. Personally I think the white key board looks cheap
9. The webcam is so poor it makes me wonder why... just that, just Why???
10. Speakers are actually ok, considering, but you do need to muck about adjusting them considerably. Ideally you need to purchase clip on speakers in addition

And finally, consider whether you really want a portable laptop for travel - if so, do not buy one without an optical drive - I already miss not being able to put in a music cd. I deeply regret having bought this machine but hey? we all make mistakes in life.

I have owned this machine for 1 day; I have loaded Office XP and a codex to view dvds. Others seem really genuinely happy with this baby. I just wish Amazon had a trial period - I won't buy a machine online again, that's for sure. I am so disapointed. And I'd read over 150 reviews before buying it too. Just goes to show, people will settle for very little
