Very dissapointing - Dumb Auto mode ![]()
As with all the Ixus range, build quality, size, features etc are all good. I have an SLR and when I want to be a bit more inconspicuous I take a little point and shoot like this. All I want to do is set it in the auto mode and let the camera do the rest. With my previous IXUS 55 this did that job perfectly. Trouble is with this model the auto mode is really really dumb. If you are using the camera in low light conditions instead of opting for a + 1/90sec flash shot it will use shutter speeds down to 1/15s sometimes choosing flash sometimes not. Unless you're walking round with a handy tripod down your trousers this will always end up producing a blurred shot. I wrote to Canon and they said this was a feature of the camera and not a fault with mine. In my mind it makes the auto mode a complete waste of time and to be honest I think the majority of people will use it like this. Another thing, as others have said it may have twice the resoloution of the Ixus 55 but there is no more real definition in the pictures. I have compared side by side and was dismayed that this well reviewed camera has not moved on in terms of picture quality. On the plus side the video mode is good, though why they chose to use .mov file standard I don't know. Overall brilliant and rubbish all at the same time.
Simple to use, well built and great value ![]()
This is the third compact digital camera I have owned, the previous two being from the Fuji Film "Z" range, but on looking for a replacement I found that thier current offerings were no where near as robust as they had been (someone let the bean counters near the R&D team perhaps?).
The Canon on the other hand is a wonderfully constructed little camera, and I do mean little, this thing will slip easily into the pocket of a pair of shorts or jeans and is even small and light enough to be allowed into my wife's handbag.
My concern when initially researching this camera online was the small size, but having tried it out in John Lewis, I found the controls easy to navigate and the camera easy to hold even with big hands and fat sausage fingers.
The camera has three main modes, automatic still, programable and video.
Automatic is probably the setting most owners of this camera will leave it on (perhaps setting up the program for night or motion shots), the first proper outing I used it for was 2 weeks in Orlando, with 600 odd pictures in varying light conditions and every single one of them crystal clear.
This camera truly does flatter the photographer.
All in all a great compact at a great price - if you need something that does more than this you really should be looking at the SLR models as the void between the price of the Canon Ixus 100IS and the entry level SLR's is filled with cameras only marginally more capable, that for all but the most keen photographers will find their extra functions and settings unused.

So compact, easy to use. Get a memory card and case for it. Good delivery.
Worth every penny! ![]()
Great camera, very light and small. I am really pleased with this purchase and would definately recommend this. However I am disappointed as with this camera I should have received a free Lowepro Apex 5AW Digital Camera Pouch which till date has not arrived.
