Great Product ![]()
Brought this product to replace a Samsung DVD writer. The Samsung DVD broke after a year and the system was very slow and too complex to use. The Panasonic does every thing I require and as I still use the Samsung as an additional receiver, I can still record programs on Freeview and watch others. The only annoying feature is the adverts when viewing the programs. Great product.
Does as it says it should ![]()
I took some time to research which recorder to buy and kept coming back to the Panasonic. In wanting to also be able to record from my digital camcorder and wanting ease of set up I decided to purchase the Panasonic DMREX79EB-K.
The initial set up wasn't exactly as it described (but that could be differences in the TV compatability). My TV is a Toshiba. However one week in and I have tried everything, recording TV is easy, transferring from the hard drive to dvd is easy and now I have sorted transferring from my camcorder. I am so pleased that it does everything as it says it should.
The service from Amazon was as always outstanding.

Having brought this item with a panasonic TX-L37V10B Tv. I was impressed with the 1080P upscaling facility on it. Watching normal dvds while upscaled is just fantastic to watch. And have revisited my collection of dvds to watch them again upscaled. The only downside with this unit is the time it takes to start up from switch on nearly a full four minutes before you can use it. which seems a backward step to me. But if you can live with this the Panasonic DMR-EX79EB-K is a dvd player recorder that I would recommend to anyone to purchase if you are looking for a dvd recorder/HDD recorder. The editing part of the Hdd is easy to use once you have got use to using it. It becomes second nature and copying to dvd is a breeze once you have edited your recording. Go for it

I hestitated buying this item after I had read some of the reviews but as we had had an excellent Panasonic machine without a hard drive I decided to risk it. Am I glad!!! The adverts on the guide screen are a little annoying but after a week or two I found that I could easily ignore them. I love the fact that with the Panasonic system I can very easily add a few minutes to programme recording timings as I find that the BBC is particularly bad at keeping exactly to timetables. I found that this was not the case with my friend's Sony.
The Pause Live TV button works brilliantly but you must of course be watching the TV through the recorder and not watching the TV directly. I think that some of the adverse comments in the reviews are as a result of having an old TV attached to the recorder rather than a digital capable one. Some of the features of the recorder need a modern TV. You can watch the TV (ours is a 3 yr old Samsung) while recording another programme as long as you have a freeview capable TV. You can link an old DVD player into the system so that you can watch a precorded DVD while recording a TV programme. You can start watching one of your recordings while the machine is recording another programme (as long as you are using the hard drive or a DVD RAM disc. Our old Panasonic disc machine is now in another room linked to a very old TV without freeview but it does mean that we can record two programmes at 9pm and watch another. The disc is then moved to our new recorder to watch in the comfort of the living room!! All in all a first class machine. The Operating Instructions booklet is a bit daunting for everything other than the Quick Start Guide but it's worth persevering to get the best out of this machine.
