U get what you pay for
Bought this set based primarily on comments on Amazon. I don't currently have a HD signal so its hard to really determine the actual picture quality. However few faults I noted. 1) When installing SKy+ I wanted to get on RGB not PAL. The TV suffered from greening of the screen. Now this can be due to SCART, or if RGB enabled. Checked all of above to no avail. The set is supposed to be RGB enabled. Still on PAL, which for me is not the better picture (I know some people say PAL is better, but I think they must need their eyes testing).
Factory settings are OK, but you may want to play about to improve pic. Sound I think is fine, although I have heard complaints about tinniness.
The picture has tendency to jump from widescreeen to normal and back again and so on which can be really annoying. I have tried to go in manually set screen size, position etc to correct but the problem continues. I am going to perservere for another few days to see if I can sort out these problems. Maybe my set is faulty. I am surprised at the lack of negative comments on here. I see Amazon are actively advertising Regza, and am hoping that they are being impartial in the publication of user reviews.
All in all, not that happy, though you are at the budget end of the market. Would I make the purchase again? No. Spend the xtra few 100 quid and get the Panasonic Viera.

As a Christmas present for the whole family, we decided to buy a 42 inch LCD TV. I'm not hugely technically minded but I read the reviews and thought this would do the trick. I also ordered a couple of HDMI cables for 99 p each just in case.
It arrived in a huge box which I thought was mainly packaging. Oh no, not packaging - the TV is really just that big!! It took me and two of my girls to put it together, although we weren't hugely successful with the stand (although our efforts seem to be holding well). Onto the stand and the TV dominates our living room - in a good way. It is ALL picture - the frame is minimal and discreet (no shiny chrome or silver to distract) and we went straight to tuning. And got completely lost. So in a fit of temper, I turned on the Sky Box and it tuned itself!!! Ditto when we plugged in the DVD player - we just picked the second HDMI channel and there it was in huge glorious colour.
And finally the PS - it made me want to sit there and play games straight away - the image was just so crisp and bright.
The remote is easy to use - each button does exactly what you think it does. We had one freak-out when the TV wouldn't turn on, but then we discovered the second on/off button on the left hand side (d'oh) and all was well. And despite being non-technically minded, I do find myself wondering whether I should get surround sound or something. The speakers are fine, the sound is lovely, and music bangs nicely when it plays - but hey, why have a TV this beautiful if you don't make the most of it?!!

I just love this tv. ordered it wednesday night and was here by 10am on the friday. very easy to set up and the picture quality is just wow. you feel like your actually there. a very good buy in my opinion.
Good but not great! 
Consider the following:
- The size is awesome, it is a big TV and watching movies can be fun (DVDs). Channel receptions vary so the TV is less to blame there.
- The picture quality is good, rather than great. It is definitely not as good as Sony Bravia. Two of my friends have Bravias bought about a year ago or more and their picture quality is definitely superior. But they are still more expensive than this one.
- Remote control is below average, in terms of lay out.
- Sound quality is average.
I bought this TV from Amazon some 3-4 weeks ago and it has already fallen in price by 10%. Perhaps should have waited a bit more. I would not be surprised if they lower it down further, and the reasons are obvious. I think this TV has drawn less interest than some of the other models out there, that are a bit more expensive.
On balance, I think this is a good entry level LCD set (above average). Overall, I am not a huge fan but I like it for what it does. If you can stretch your budget by £100 quid, I would suggest wait until after Christmas sales, and you could be better off with a superior long term purchase.

I ordered this Toshiba 42 inch Regza television with amazon and it was delivered the next day. It is a lovely looking television. I have seen some widescreen tv's with quite a wide 'frame' around the screen but this has a very narrow frame so that all you see is screen which is fabulous. The only drawback is the handset which is not quite as responsive as I would like, when you first switch it on, other than that it is a really good buy. By the way, my other toshiba t.v. is 25 years old and still going strong.
